This was a retirement project for a couple who had raised their family in the cottage that originally sat on this site. Not needing the space for children any more and future planning for retirement, they wanted to create a duplex that was fun, slightly out there with design features (see the steel balustrades and sloping walls) that was modern and light-filled.
Coming from Northern Europe they wanted a huge underground storage area (like in many European houses) that could house a wine store, all family items or could become a kids play den, there is a secret electric Gorter Hatch installed seamlessly into the kitchen for access. An indoor atrium that floods the house with light as you enter is framed by a steel staircase which in itself is a work of art.
High end finishes throughout make this duplex an inviting place to come home to. Both sides were mirror images of each other so the clients designed with great taste in mind for the sale of one side
