Bungalow, renovation & extension

The goal was to create a ‘beachy feel’ haven for this original Californian bungalow, which had beautiful high ceilings and great potential due to its proximity to the beach. A haven somewhere everybody wanted to be; especially the children, when they become teenagers. Street parking had always been the ‘norm’, so onsite parking (an afterthought to the design) would be wonderful. The family sought 3 bedrooms, a family bathroom, ensuite, laundry and functional kitchen with open plan living leading out onto the rear yard. The dream was for the home to be light and bright with cross ventilation to make the most of the location.
When we met Matt at MJK Building, our design plans had been approved by council, but they were still pretty vague and basic in design, plus we were a tricky dual occupancy, non- traditional building site and novice renovators to boot. I am surprised he didn’t run a mile. Matt had already finished three builds on our street and the level of detail in his finish was impressive. We were keen to partner with him. A year later, I marvel at the finish product, our new home. To say it exceeded all expectations is an understatement. The house wouldn’t have looked anything like this if we didn’t partner with MJK Building. Matt guided and introduced us to design detail and finishes that we would not have known about. His experience and passion for his craft allowed him to suggest subtle and massive changes (interior and exterior) to deliver a superior outcome. All of the team were terrific to deal with. Claire in the back office made it all run seamlessly and the experienced crew on the tools were a talented and focused bunch. Well done Team MJK – I wish you all the best and will certainly be recommending your services.
