Manly Project 02

Existing house remodel, and additional storey

In collaboration with

To design a light-filled kitchen with a dining space connected to the back garden area, as well as to provide a bathroom and laundry hidden behind it. This project was a renovation working with a late 1800 period house. The requirement was for the new spaces to have feelings equal to the scale and craftsmanship to that of the old part of the house. Seeking ways to give privacy to the new living area at the back of the house from overlooking neighbours whilst at the same time not lessen access to north east sun into the interior of the new living space.
I am an architect based in Victoria. I found that from the start of the project Matt from MJK Building was on board with the vision of the proposed design. He understood the spatial importance of the proposed coffered ceiling around the edges of the new living area and gave the clients added confidence as to the importance of the inclusion of this space. Matt was in constant communication with myself throughout the whole of the build and this meant that the building did not suffer the tyranny of distance working between the two states. Matt showed a high level of competence in this project, with difficult access to the site and a complicated new structure to insert into an existing two storey house. There were no issues for such a complex and difficult build I would have no hesitation in recommending MJK Building for another project of this type.
