We are local to the Northern Beaches area of Sydney, and love getting to know and working with new people. Our values and ethics run through our team, we are very intentional about the standards that we have for our team.
At MJK Building we are driven by passion, pride in our work, teamwork and integrity. These attributes flow from our values and they are driven from the directors Claire and Matt across the business. We work hard with our team to cultivate a great culture and environment for success which many of our clients have commented on. This feeds into the building process, our team are used to turning on a pin, being solutions focused, while fun to be around.
We have been fortunate to work with our employees and team of local trades for many years, with many of our subcontractors being part of the MJK family. Some of our team members have been with us for nearly 10 years which is testament to how we approach our projects with consideration and care resulting in a great outcome for all.
Matt has had a passion for design and construction from an early age. After completing a foundation course in architecture, he continued his love of built form, transferring to a carpentry apprenticeship with the ambition of running his own construction and design company.
His UK background in oak timber framing, on both heritage restoration projects and modern new builds provided a fascinating foundation in building. Matt ran mid to large-scale residential projects combining traditional building methods with modern techniques across Southern England.
Relocating to Australia over 16 years ago Matt first worked as a site manager for a residential construction company on the North Shore for 4 years to gain an understanding of the building industry in Australia.
Matt left to establish and grow MJK Building based on the Northern beaches of Australia, where we live and work. Matt has worked hard to build an excellent reputation supported by an experienced and dedicated team who have been with us many years.
Claire brings the process to the business. Having renovated 7 times since being with Matt in 18 years she understands how clients feel on the other end and how information is key. A lover of taking risks, don’t get her involved in your colour schemes unless you would like to move away from white. A background in sales working for the world’s largest Organisational Psychologist firm Claire is also passionate about staff welfare, culture and performance. We make staff progression and development a priority, which we feel helps us retain the best staff.
Claire has worked hard to create a clear and transparent process to support you through your building journey as well ensuring all sites are compliant and safe. Claire will also be there at the end of the project helping you get the OC and organising photo shoots, so you have a record of your amazing project that has come to life.
I have been working in the building industry since 1997. I have a wide skill set across all residential building methods from harbourside to heritage listed buildings. I have had the opportunity of working with architects Walter Barda, Jorge Hrdina and Andrew Tzannes, on varied and interesting projects. I have also worked with award winning developers Denwol and Stasia.
I commenced work for Matt and Claire in 2013 as one of their site foremen and since then have built a strong mentoring relationship with the MJK team, as well as close relationships with their many clients. Often we spend a year or so working alongside our clients and I can honestly say that each one has been a fun experience.
Working at MJK Building provides the opportunity to continue my passion for renovating and building within the local area, on interesting and challenging projects. I love working close to home which allows me to spend quality time with my young family which to me is invaluable.
